The Development Of Steel Bridges
Jul 05, 2021
A steel bridge is a bridge made of steel for the span structure. In 1874, the United States built the world's first large steel bridge on the Mississippi River-the St. Louis steel arch bridge. After the Second World War, the science and technology of steel bridges was smelted by high-strength and high-quality steel and improved welding technology. The application of orthotropic steel bridge decks and high-strength bolts, as well as the diversification of structural types, has made great developments, prompting the widespread adoption of long-span steel bridges.
Due to the high strength of steel, superior performance, and the small ratio of apparent density to allowable stress, the steel bridge has a large span. The component manufacturing of the steel bridge is most suitable for industrialization, transportation and installation are relatively convenient, the erection period is short, and it is easy to repair and replace after damage, but the steel is easy to rust and maintenance is difficult.
