The Four Basic Types Of Steel Box Girder

Nov 18, 2021

The four types of steel box girder include pontoon bridge, girder bridge, cable bridge and arch bridge, which are distinguished according to the different structures of the bridge. A bridge is a kind of overhead building with carrying capacity. Its main function is to allow railways, highways, channels, pipelines and people to cross rivers, valleys or other obstacles. It is an important part of the traffic line.

There are many ways to classify bridges, usually in terms of stress characteristics, bridge construction materials, applicable spans, and construction conditions.

1. Divided into beam bridges, arch bridges, rigid frame bridges, suspension bridges, and combined system bridges according to the force characteristics.

2. Divided by purpose, there are highway bridges, railway bridges, road-rail bridges, agricultural bridges, pedestrian bridges, water-carrying bridges (aqueducts) and other special bridges (such as through pipelines, cables, etc.).

3. According to the length and span of the bridge, it can be divided into extra-large bridge, large bridge, medium bridge, and small bridge.

4. According to the materials used in the main load-bearing structures, there are masonry bridges, reinforced concrete bridges, prestressed concrete bridges, steel bridges, steel-concrete combined beam bridges and wooden bridges.

5. According to the nature of crossing obstacles, there are river-crossing bridges, over-line bridges (three-dimensional crossing bridges), viaducts and trestle bridges.

6. According to the position of the carriageway of the upper structure, it is divided into deck type (the bridge deck structure is arranged above the main load-bearing structure) bridge, through type bridge, and half-through type bridge.
